DIY Laundry Bag Supplies:
Small/Queen sized laundry bag
Cording
Hard and flat insert you can get paint on - I used an old cutting board
Toxin-free fabric paint
Painting sponge or brushes
Scissors
Lighter
Paper plate
Safety pin
Directions:
First prepare your workspace by laying down a drop cloth, just in case. Next, place your flat object inside your pillowcase, and gather the excess pillow case at the back of the flat object, to prevent any paint from bleeding through and to keep your pillowcase taught. Place a quarter sized drop of paint on your paper plate and use your sponge/brushes to paint on your design. For my design, I used a stencil to make sure I got the look I want as I am not a talented painter... Once you've finished painting, allow the paint to dry before removing your flat object.
After it has dried, fold the open top portion over so you are working on the INSIDE of the edge of the pillowcase. On either side of the seam, separate the two layers of fabric (you won't be able to completely separate, since it is one piece of fabric folded over and sewn together, but separate the sides so you don't cut all the way through) and cut a small hole on either side. Pin your safety pin to the end of your cording, and thread it through one hole, all the way through the top of the pillowcase, and out the other hole. Use the lighter to burn the edges of the holes and the ends of the cording to prevent any fraying (please be careful!), and you're done!
Now that you have an adorable laundry bag, either keep it for yourself or fill it with some travel and cleaning essentials for a quick and easy gift! This is especially perfect for the new graduate or world traveler! I filled mine with a travel journal, clothespins, some travel sized/reusable containers, all® fresh clean ESSENTIALS®, and AVEENO PURE RENEWAL® Shampoo and Conditioner.
What items would you fill your laundry bag with? Would you gift it or keep it for yourself? Tip: pillowcases come in packs of two - perfect for keeping AND gifting!
