Burlington to Ben & Jerry's // New England Pt. 6
Read Pt. 1 // Pt. 2 // Pt. 3 // Pt. 4 // Pt. 5
Our last day in Vermont was quite possibly my favorite of the trip. I’m not even sure why, because each day was so exciting and unique. It was cloudy and rainy, which made the Autumn colors seem to pop, even more, and seemed to set the mood of each activity.
We started the day with a visit to the Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream Factory. First up was a short tour, where we learned more about the company and their production process (Love the efforts they make towards sustainability and responsibility). The tour ended with generously sized samples, which we thoroughly enjoyed, even if it was eleven o’clock in the morning. Once we finished inside, we wandered out to their “Flavor Graveyard” and paid our respects to those flavors who are no longer with us… May they rest in peace.
Next up was a visit to Vermont’s largest city, Burlington. We stopped in Burlington Hearth/American Flatbread for some pizza, which lived up to the online reviews (I had the Medicine Wheel, and it was delicious!) both in taste and atmosphere. Once our bellies were filled with more than just ice cream, we wandered down Church Street, where they were having their annual Trick-Or-Treat event. We browsed a few shops, along the outdoor mall, snapped some photos of the iconic church building, and then made our way down to the Lake Champlain waterfront where we photographed the picturesque dock that looks upward towards the city.
As we drove back to the Airbnb, we did our best to soak in the last of our Vermont views, stopping a few times to photograph a couple of the many lakes and winding, tree lined roads. The day, overall, was simple. Just time spent in the car, some delicious pizza, and beautiful views. But even while traveling, simple is all you need.
