California Road Trip Pt. 2 // The Scenic Route
After getting our fill of Lake Tahoe (not that that is possible), my dad and I made our way to Yosemite National Park. I had mapped out a full day of driving, just to make sure we had plenty of time to stop, see the sights, and to take a more scenic route... And boy, did we ever!
As we drove, our route became less and less populated. Each turn held a new, beautiful landmark - from the golden hills to the many mountain lakes. Our favorite spot was a lake at the top of a mountain pass, where we scrambled up some large rocks to get a better view. We passed through some of the wine country, beautiful canyons with waterfalls in the distance, and eventually ended up on an old, dirt road... My maps generally steer me in the right direction, and we had a few hours to kill, so we decided to go for it!
The road got more bumpy and desolate as we drove, making both my dad and I laugh at the thought that this is where we had ended up, until we had tears in our eyes. We stopped to take pictures, as it was too funny to not document the moment, just before we came upon some locals who had just been for a swim in the small pond. They confirmed that we were on the correct (although, less traveled) road, and would reach our destination in just a few more miles - which, we eventually did.
For all of you adventurers out there - if you ever find yourself in the Yosemite area, and feel like taking a drive, I believe the road we were on was called "Indian Gulch".
