Dreaming Of Cabin Days
Visiting my family’s cabin is always a treat. We can only access it between the months of July and October, so we go as often as we can, within that timeframe. It’s a small, secluded structure, nestled between some pines, almost at the top of the mountain. In the Summertime, the hillsides are covered in every shade and type of wildflower you could imagine. Come Autumn, the leaves and grasses change, offsetting the green pines with earthy browns and golds.
When we visit, I often awake early, before the sun has risen, and sit outside to welcome the day. The brisk mountain air is the perfect way to wake the senses. As evening sets in, we all like to huddle inside, playing games or reading stories next to the black iron stove. The kitchen is often filled with the smell of food and plenty of delicious snacks to go around. But we also enjoy using the fire-pit, that sits in the yard, to roast hot dogs and marshmallows, while we tell jokes and watch for shooting stars.
While almost every trip to our cabin holds the same routine, it never gets old. Its a refreshing way to recharge and its always so hard to say goodbye… Especially when the season ends and the snow sets in.
We’re currently in the off season, when our cabin is no longer accessible. But I’m dreaming of the days when the sun returns and the road clears, so we can visit, once more.
