Five of My Favorite Outdoor, Canberra Experiences

While living in Australia, I spent the majority of my time in Canberra. It’s located in the “mountains” of AU, somewhere between Sydney and Melbourne. While still a fairly small city, it still has a lot to offer, especially for those who enjoy the outdoors!

Here are five of my favorite outdoor experiences I had, while living in Canberra…

Yankee Hat Rock -

This “bush walk” was probably my favorite. It’s located within the Namadgi National Park, where the landscape was breathtaking, there were mobs of kangaroos (Did you know a group of kangaroos is called a “mob”?), and at the end of the trail, a large rock with the only known aboriginal art site in the ACT (Australian Capital Territory).

Namadgi Bush Walking -

I am not sure which hike, these photos are from, exactly. But I do know that they were taken within Namadgi National Park. This park is filled with hikes and beautiful vistas. I loved the views, so much, I am hoping to do a bit more exploring when I go back, next week!

London Bridge Arch -

Located in the Googong Foreshore, you’ll find a large, beautiful, natural arch called London Bridge. The area is home to many wombats, kangaroos, and wallaby’s. (Just be sure to watch out for the wombat holes, as there are many.) This was an easy walk, perfect for families with a rewarding view at the end.

Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve -

Also located within the Namadgi National Park, is Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve. This is a beautiful area filled with wildlife, picnic tables, and bush walks. While many animals in the Australian Bush are somewhat difficult to spot, here you’ll be almost guaranteed to see them. I also posted about Tidbinbilla, HERE.

Gibralter Falls -

This is the only waterfall I was able to see, within the Canberra area, and it was a beautiful one! An easy walk from the parking lot, it only took us a few minutes to get here. The area is filled with picnic benches and barbecues, as well as additional walks you can take to explore the area.

This was my last Australia post, from my first trip, Down Under! But, of course, I am heading back, next week, and can’t wait to see what other adventures there are to share!
