Ojai, California Travel Guide
This past Summer I had the opportunity to house sit for a friend of mine who lives in Ojai, California. I had never been to this part of the state, and instantly fell in love with this quaint town. The locals here work hard to keep their Ojai authentic, and their sense of community really adds to the overall charm!
Since I was staying for a month, it really gave me time to explore and get to know this little town. From what to eat to what to do, here are my favorites!
Eat
One of my favorite ways to spend an evening was by grabbing a pizza to-go, from Papa Lennon's, and eating it at the beach.
Whenever I was spending a day in town, I always made sure to grab a smoothie from Rainbow Bridge!
This Italian restaurant is located right in the middle of town. I had the Valverde veggie pasta and it was so good!
My most frequented spot has to be Ojai Ice Cream. They make their ice cream in house, and even have a signature, Ojai Pixie Tangerine flavor that will have you returning again and again.
Located about thirty minutes outside of Ojai, right along the beach, is Padaro Beach Grill. I got a burger and it was honestly one of the best I've ever had!
Ojai Pixie Tangerines
Ojai is famous for their sweet-as-candy, Pixie Tangerines! Be sure to get your hands on some, at the Farmer's Market or elsewhere!
Do
This may seem like an obvious option, but Ojai is so close to the seaside, that it's definitely a must-do. I loved going in the evenings to watch the sunset, when the beaches weren't crowded.
I don't drink, but this winery is so beautiful and has something for everyone. There are yard games outside, and they often have live music!
Overlook Ojai valley and find your center at Meditation Mount. This peaceful spot is perfect for reflection and yoga.
Every Sunday, in the middle of town, there is a local Farmer's Market, filled with homemade and homegrown goodies!
During the Summer months, on Wednesday evenings, there are concerts in the park. The city band plays familiar songs (from new to old), while local volunteers pass out free balloons. There's popcorn and lemonade for sale, and near the end of the concert, all the kids parade around the park with their balloons in tow.
I'm putting this in the "Do" category, because coming here, to sit in the shade and read a book, was one of my favorite activities! This bookstore has a beautiful yard area where they hold readings, but it's also a great spot to unwind.
Ojai is famous for their Arcade (the arches that line the town), filled with shops. The park is also here, just next to the post office. (Yes, that building on the corner with the bell tower is the post office!)
Spas
Kenna's salon is located in Ventura, just thirty minutes away from Ojai, and definitely worth the drive! I did a lot of research to make sure I found the best lash artist in Ojai, and felt confident going into my appointment. I just wish I'd had time to book some other services with her!
I visited Glo Nails a few times during my stay in Ojai, and loved every minute of it! The technicians always did a great job, and the salon is beautiful and clean.
Looking to relax? The AA Relaxing Station offers reflexology foot massages for an amazing price! Just don't let the plain store front fool you!
lash perfection, thanks to Skincare by Kenna!
Shop
Easily my favorite store, in all of Ojai (and beyond). Shop Summer Camp is a gorgeous store, filled with curated, local treasures.
My favorite vintage shop, Enid & Edgar, is located just outside of town, in a large and adorable tent!
One of the coolest shops and cafes I've ever been to, Tipple & Ramble is the perfect place for a fruit and cheese picnic.
This gorgeous shop is truly magical, from the second you walk in and are greeted with a hopscotch walkway.
Definitely a hot spot, Bart's Books is one of the coolest book shops I've ever seen!
Check out my Ojai video, below, to see the favorites I've listed in greater detail!
Ojai truly is a piece of Heaven on earth. If you ever get the chance to visit, I highly recommend it! You may even spot a celebrity (there are a few big names that live there) going about their daily life.
