Halloween Tradition // Boo It Forward

With Halloween right around the corner, I took it upon myself to start the neighborhood BOO'ing! It's one of my favorite Halloween traditions, probably because I have fond memories from when my sister's and I would BOO our neighbors. I also loved being a part of my nieces and nephew's BOO'ing experiences! It's just a fun way to spend time with family and create community!

This year I wanted my BOO Kit to be something creative and reminiscent of some of my favorite Fall movies. So I decided on a spooky spell book box - the perfect way to gift some goodies! I filled my BOO Kit with MARS® Candy and some American Greetings seasonal items to top it off! Here's how I made my spooky spell book...

First, here is what you will need to create your BOO Kit:

• MARS® Candy
• A Paper Mache/Cardboard Book Box (I got mine at a craft store)
• Paintable Glue (also craft store)
• Painting Sponge
• Paper Plate (for the glue)
• Tissue Paper
• Hot Glue and/or Your Favorite Craft Glue
• Your Choice of Paint
• Embellishments

Step One: Lay out a work surface - I used a trash bag

Step Two: As you paint your book with glue, apply the tissue paper and paint more glue on top. The best part about this is, the less perfect it is the better! You want to create a textured/worn look.

Step Three: After the glue has dried, decide how you want to apply your embellishments. I decided to apply mine before painting so that they all matched.

Step Four: Glue your embellishments onto your book. Just do what you think looks best!

Step Five: Use hot glue to create any additional designs you might want. I did this to give the book some added texture so it would look more authentic.

Step Six: Once your glue has dried completely, paint your book and apply any finishing touches. I left my "eye" until the end so it would stand out more!

Step Seven: Once your BOO Kit is complete, fill it with Halloween goodies and deliver to some unsuspecting neighbors!
